Join Healthy West Chicago and West Chicago Public Library in a cooking demo class to learn how to make delicious and nutritious Veggie Spring Rolls.  The class will be with Daniela Limon a Register Dietician and it will be bilingual.

The cooking class will be at the West Chicago Public Library.

Únete a Healthy West Chicago y la biblioteca en una demonstration de cómo preparar rollos de vegetales de primavera. Esta clase sera dictada por la nutrióloga y Register Dietician Daniela Limon.  Ven y aprende como preparar un plato que te ayudara a comer vegetales en una forma divertida.

La clase de cocina sera en la biblioteca de West Chicago.

Help us welcome Fall at West Chicago’s Fit4Fall 5k!!! The 5K & 1 Mile Youth Race will start and finish at Reed Keppler Park by Zone 250 at 201 West National Street, West Chicago. This is a 5K Certified course on the Prairie Path! We will have a fun post-race event that you won't want to miss!

The race is being organized by Healthy West Chicago and We Go Together for Kids.

Registration & Fee Structure

  • 5K Run Adult (18 and older): $30.00

  • 5K Run Adult (18 and older) WC Resident: $20

  • 5K Run Student (17 and under) $15.00

  • 5K Run student (17 and under) WC resident $10

  • 1 Mile Youth Run (10 and under) $5.00

5K runners will receive a Fit4Fall 5K medal and Fit4Fall 5K shirt. The first 75 to pick up the registration package will get a goodie ba.

5K runners will receive a snack at the end of the rice, a medal and a t-shirt.

Families running with 4 or more people will receive $5 off the total at check out!

*Must register by August 23rd to be guaranteed your shirt/size*

Age Groups and Award Categories (In-Person Participation):

5K Trophy: One Overall Male and One Overall Female Winner

5K Medals: All participants will receive a medal post-race

All participants in the 1 Mile Fun Run (10 & under) get a Finisher's Ribbon post-race

Microgreens are one of the nutrient dense foods that will help you to add more nutrients to your daily meals and also, they are fun to grow during the winter months where it's not possible to garden as much anymore.

Join Rocio Velis a bilingual environmental education for this amazing class where she will teach you how to do fermented products at your home and you will learn some basic techniques that you can use to pickle some of the products from your garden.

Discover the art of fermentation and pickling in this hands-on, one-hour workshop designed for beginners. Learn the science behind preserving food, the difference between fermentation and pickling, and how these techniques enhance flavor, provide nutrition and help reduce food waste. Using simple materials—provided for all participants—we’ll demonstrate how to start a basic fermentation process and create quick refrigerator pickles, no kitchen required! Participants will leave with practical knowledge, easy recipes, and the confidence to experiment at home. Perfect for food enthusiasts, gardeners, and anyone curious about traditional preservation methods.

Únete a Roció Velis, educadora bilingüe del medio ambiente, en una clase en donde aprenderás a fermentar productos que puedes crecer en tu jardín y en donde también aprenderás algunas técnicas bases de preparar encurtidos.

Descubre el arte de fermentar y encurtir en esta clase en persona diseñada para principiantes.  En esta clase vas a aprender la ciencia detrás de preservar los alimentos, la diferencia entre los fermentados y los encurtidos, y cómo estas técnicas cambian y transforman los sabores, proveen nutrición y ayudan a reducir el desperdicio de alimentos.  Usando estos materiales simples, vamos a demostrar cómo comenzar un proceso básico de fermentación y vamos a crear encurtidos que se pueden guardar en la nevera.  Los participantes van a obtener un conocimiento práctico, recetas fáciles y la confianza para experimentar en casa.  Es perfecto para los entusiasmados por los alimentos, jardineros y para cualquier persona que tenga curiosidad en los métodos tradicionales de preservar los alimentos.
