About Healthy West Chicago’s Walkability Work
Healthy West Chicago is excited to launch a new community walkability campaign focused on making it easier, safer, and more enjoyable for people of all ages to walk, roll, and move throughout West Chicago.
Healthy West Chicago has been meeting with local government, schools, healthcare and mental health organizations, community groups, and other partners to help build this effort. Together, we are looking at both the opportunities and barriers that affect walkability in our community.
Why does walkability matter? Walking and regular movement can support heart health, improve energy, reduce stress, boost mood, and strengthen our connections with neighbors and the community around us. Creating places where people feel safe and comfortable walking can also make it easier for residents to get to schools, parks, businesses, community spaces, and other destinations.
Now we want to hear from you.
Where do you enjoy walking in West Chicago? Where do you experience barriers or safety concerns? Are there places where you would like to see improvements? What would make it easier or more enjoyable for you and your family to walk, roll, or move around our community?
Please use this feedback form to share your experiences, concerns, and ideas. Your input will help Healthy West Chicago and our community partners better understand local needs and identify opportunities for future programming, community engagement, and walkability improvements.
Over the next several months, we will also be creating additional opportunities for West Chicago residents to participate in this work and share ideas about places they would like to see improved.

Thank you for helping us work toward a healthier, safer, more connected, and more walkable West Chicago.
Healthy West Chicago (HWC) is working to improve safe walkability and connectivity across West Chicago. This work advances our mission of promoting a culture of well-being in West Chicago, encouraging residents’ healthy walking habits while also improving their physical health and mental well-being. HWC is facilitating a collaborative multi-sector effort, which aligns with our signature programs supporting community health promotion, nutrition education, movement, and emotional well-being.
We are inviting community members to help us identify priority walkability improvements. In this short survey, would are seeking your feedback around a proposed improvement at the Illinois Prairie Path crossing on Washington Street (located just north of the Public Library and south of Gallery 200). Better understanding your experiences will help us document the need for an improvement.
We will share a summary of survey findings with survey takers. We will not identify survey respondents by name.
